Finance is the foundation of economic growth, investment, and wealth creation. This MSc of Science in Finance would not only consider the conventional view but also does in Islamic financial System. As Somalia transitions towards stability and growth, there is a pressing need
for financial experts who can play a key role in managing investments, improving the banking system, and implementing sound economic policies. Moreover, financial knowledge helps create a sustainable business model that can attract foreign direct investment and strengthen
Somalia’s growing economy. Hence, Somali National University proposes the establishment of a Master of Science in finance.
This MSc of Science in Finance is an applied MSc degree study program under the Department Economics, Management, Accounting and Statistics in line with school of graduate studies and research at Somali National University. Thus, Master of Finance offers educational programs
in finance and advanced technical skills that are determined to equip students with the ability to propose, construct, and evaluate financial models, theories, and investment strategies.

Program Objectives MSc of Science in Finance

The MSc of Science in Finance is designed to produce graduates with strong theoretical foundations and practical expertise to navigate the complexities of modern financial systems. Therefore, the program aims to:
 Develop advanced knowledge in financial theory, quantitative analysis, and applied financial management, equipping students to analyze complex financial issues at both national and international levels.
 Prepare students for leadership roles in banking, capital markets, regulatory institutions, and development finance, with a particular focus on emerging economies and post conflict contexts.
 Foster an understanding of digital finance and FinTech innovations, including mobile banking, blockchain, and Islamic finance, relevant to Somalia’s evolving financial ecosystem.
 Contribute the National development through human capital formation Aligned with Somalia’s National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029) and the SNU Strategic Plan (2025–2030), the program seeks to advance nation-building by developing a finance professionals equipped to lead public financial reform, strengthen economic institutions, and drive inclusive economic growth through evidence-based decision making.
 Promote regional financial integration competencies, in line with Somalia’s accession to the East African Community (EAC), enabling graduates to contribute to cross-border financial cooperation and regulatory harmonization.
 Strengthen academic and leadership advancement for SNU graduates By providing a structured graduate-level pathway, the program aims to serve the growing number of alumni from the Department of Economics, Management, Accounting, and Statistics, enabling them to pursue advanced specializations, contribute to sectoral leadership, and meet the evolving demands of Somalia’s financial landscape.
