The rationale for developing Master of Educational Leadership and Management

The need to improve the education sector in Somalia and the concern about its quality are increasing, especially with the relatively high primary and secondary school enrollment rate in recent times. It comes at the forefront of quality development, the shift from hiring untrained lecturers and teachers who lack the necessary educational skills, which is one of the main reasons that led to the production of a low-quality workforce in the country. The problem gets worse when ineffective strategies are applied to solve the dilemma, such as employing foreigners from neighboring countries, which may lead to high unemployment rate among the local population.

However, it is auspicious that the Ministry of Education is making great efforts to improve the overall situation of education in the country and particularly the teacher training. In line with these efforts, the Faculty of Education & Social Sciences, Somali National University took the initiative in developing Master of Educational Leadership and Management which aims to improve teaching methods of professionals in the country’s educational sector.
